A Change of Venues... a New Trend?

It seems like for the last two years that I have been doing weddings in the capital district, I have been at many locations I have either never heard of, or knew they existed. Being in the wedding business for almost 25 years, that is hard to believe ! Through out my DJ career, I have been at locations such as Century House, Birch Hill, The Desmond , Glen Sanders many times ( just to name a few ) but I have witnessed a dramatic change in the last 2 years. For example, a lot of weddings I DJ'ed have been barn weddings, at a lodge in the Adirondacks , a state park right on the Hudson river , different farms though out the capital district and surrounding area, wineries , and even some golf courses that are remote with great background scenery. These are just a few examples. Normally, these type of locations are the exception and not the rule so to speak for the venues I normally DJ weddings at through out the year. I must admit, I really enjoyed doing these type of weddings and most have not been as formal. Needless to say my tuxedo did not get much use and has been more business casual attire.  You can also tell there is a different energy at these weddings. You don't have to rush as much, and it's more about the celebration and having fun ! If you are an engaged couple and do not have your DJ , Photographer, or your Venue, fill out the contact form to find out more information about some of the unique locations I have been at or to schedule your free consultation. Happy Wedding Planning !

The Biggest Mistakes When Hiring A DJ

  • Mistake #1: Assuming that going through an entertainment agency or an event planner is the best way to go.
  • Mistake #2: Basing your decision primarily on price.
  • Mistake #3: Believing testimonial claims.
  • Mistake #4: Thinking large Disc Jockey Corporations=Better Service. Most of the big DJ Companies hire multiple DJ's with average talent, pay them minimum wages and give them average equipment. And guess what: The reason they charge you more is because they have to pay the DJ and have enough money left over to satisfy their pockets!
